Social Investment Scotland (SIS) are a social investment finance intermediary (SIFI) operating across Scotland and beyond. Our mission is ‘to connect capital with communities, to make a real, measurable and sustainable impact upon peoples’ lives’.

Our strategy to 2030, ‘Building an Impact Economy’, highlights our approach to enabling social and environmental impact through our society and economy. By 2030, we aim to provide 5,000 enterprises with the tools, support, inspiration, and connections to create greater social impact; and to connect 5,000 social entrepreneurs, enterprises and third-sector organisations with mission-aligned investment and support.

Purpose of Role

We are excited to offer an opportunity to join SIS as an Investment Manager within our Communities Team, following the retirement of a valued and long-serving colleague. This role is central to our mission and growth, providing leadership at both operational and transaction levels. You will be responsible for appraising new lending opportunities to charities and social enterprises, and for nurturing relationships within our existing portfolio of borrowing customers

Responsibilities

This role is varied and involves being flexible in support of the needs of SIS. The role includes the following key responsibilities:

• Managing a portfolio of existing and new customer investments.
• Support pipeline development opportunities within the team to identify and secure new opportunities; assessing opportunities against investment criteria framework; and progress opportunities through diligence phase, including support for proposals at Credit Committee stage.
• Work closely with the team, in particular the Investment Support Manager to ensure approved yet undrawn commitments are progressed and Conditions satisfied before drawdown.
• Working across the SIS team, while supporting and building a network of stakeholders, supporters, investors, and co-investment partners in line with the strategic vision and mission.
• Support SIS Market Building activities, attending events, and advocating for the work SIS does.

Competencies, Knowledge and Experience

We’re looking for someone who brings:

• Transactional / deal experience in company finance with experience of structuring investment/loan transactions.
• Able to assess lending applications and provide support to applicants to help with their own investment readiness.
• Experience of the social sector is desirable but not essential however, applicants should have an appreciation of the work and importance of social enterprise in Scotland and beyond.
• Experience of working on own initiative, without ongoing direct supervision.
• Experience of confidently delivering presentations and participating in meetings.

Overall, our approach is ‘hybrid first’, being primarily home-based, and with access to our Edinburgh office and Glasgow coworking space to support interactions with each other.
