Role Purpose

SASC is an ambitious fast-growing social investment fund manager providing flexible finance to inspiring social sector organisations that support communities and improve people’s lives. Our investment approach puts social impact at the heart of everything we do: we are committed to developing creative solutions that will enable organisations to grow and continue delivering scalable and sustainable solutions to social issues. Established in 2014, we have committed more than £170m of capital as loans to date to non-profit organisations across the UK. We work with organisations who are tackling entrenched social issues such as poverty, homelessness, social isolation and unemployment.

The Portfolio Management team is responsible for developing and managing client lending relationships through relationship management, credit management, and business development.

We are looking for a versatile, people driven professional with good numeracy skills and a genuine passion for the social sector.

The Portfolio Manager will support our Borrowers while they acquire the properties funded with the SASC loans. The Portfolio Manager will also have responsibility for line management of one of the Portfolio Analysts in the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and strengthen long term relationships with clients, being the key SASC contact for the client during your employment with SASC.
  • Manage existing loan portfolios to ensure compliance with the terms of credit approval.
  • During loan deployment stage:
    • Support clients with their property purchasing activity, ensuring deployment of the approved loan without undue delays.
    • This will involve close monitoring of client purchasing progress, pre-empting and addressing potential issues, project managing multiple parties in the purchasing process and ensuring all stakeholders are working towards completing the property purchase programme without undue delay.
    • Review and approve each property identified for purchase, ensuring adherence to terms of sanction, SASC lending criteria and LTV appetite.
  • Perform financial, impact and credit analyses, addressing any performance deterioration.
  • Prepare quarterly investor reports.
  • Review and interrogate quarterly client rent calculation returns, agree quarterly interest payments with clients and ensure timely receipt of interest payments.
  • Prepare investment papers and present to the investment committee for approval for amendments and consents.
  • Identify and develop new loan opportunities with existing clients.
  • Monitor registration of security to ensure timely registration of property charges.
  • Regular communications and visits with clients as part of ongoing management of the relationship and accounts.
  • Update and review client risk ratings when appropriate.
  • Coach, train and mentor junior colleagues. Line manage one Portfolio Analyst conducting performance management where necessary.
  • Support ongoing systems and process improvements projects.

Skills and Experience

  • A commitment to social impact investing and supporting social enterprises.
  • Capacity to review and understand lending legal documentation, from a commercial and pragmatic perspective.
  • High level of comfort with financial modelling and analysis, and able to apply this to understand property valuations, yield analyses, etc.
  • A problem-solving mindset; empathetic, dedicated, resourceful and intellectually curious.
  • A natural communicator, able to effectively interact with a wide range of people, with different levels of financial expertise and build lasting relationships.
  • A strong team player who thrives in a high-volume, busy environment and is keen to train and support more junior members of the team.
  • Capacity for autonomy and ability to work on their own initiative within a small team, often to tight deadlines.
  • Prior experience in property valuations, property transactions or housing policy a plus, but not a requirement.
