Role Purpose

The Data Transformation Manager is responsible for developing and implementing a data strategy for Power to Change. This role will also be responsible for optimising the data function within Power to Change and the CRM system, Salesforce. In 2021 Power to Change embarks on a new strategy introducing new programmes of work and winding up existing ones. This role is critical to that transition by improving the way we use data. This primarily requires improving our existing Salesforce processes and creating new automated workflows. But it will also require improving our data governance (I.e. GDPR), management and operations across the organisation too.

Power to Change is an independent charitable trust that supports community businesses in England, endowed by the National Lottery Community Fund (previously the Big Lottery Fund). Our vision is ‘powerful communities, better places’. We want to back people to build successful community businesses for the benefit of their local places. In 2021 Power to Change embarks on a new strategy introducing new programmes of work and winding up existing ones. Better managing and using data will be key to this transition.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities for 2021:

  • Take ownership for developing and implementing a data strategy for Power to Change.
  • Support colleagues to use data to understand the needs of community business and our key stakeholders
  • Be an integral part of the team improving business processes for grants management for new activities and be responsible for the Salesforce developments.
  • Develop and project manage the roadmap of Salesforce developments.
  • Automate and increase efficiencies of existing data transfer with delivery partners.
  • Take ownership of the data quality improvement plan and deliver it.

Role responsibilities:

  • Take ownership for developing and implementing a data strategy for Power to Change.
  • Be an integral part of the data team improving business processes for grants management for new activities and be responsible for the Salesforce developments.
  • Develop and project manage the roadmap of Salesforce developments. Automate and increase efficiencies of existing data transfer with delivery partners.

Collaborative responsibilities:

  • Work with the Communications team to use data to understand the needs of our key stakeholders, and ensure that the processes and systems to reach and manage these stakeholders are efficient and fit for purpose.
  • Work with the Impact and Learning team to improve and embed operational processes across the organisation including key impact reporting.
  • Work with the Policy team to improve and embed operational processes in our activities.
  • Work with the Programme Delivery team to use data to understand the support needs of community businesses, improve and embed operational processes in our activities.

Organisation responsibilities:

  • Embed and continue to review diversity, equity and inclusion into our work.
  • Lead on commissioning and managing contracted partners as required.
  • Manage the budget for your work including planning, monitoring and reporting, and authorizing spend within agreed parameters, with the support of the Finance team.
  • Oversee high quality reporting and effective communications on your activities across Power to Change.
  • Be an active and engaged colleague, taking part in support and learning activities.
  • Ensure relevant data is maintained on Salesforce, (working with the Data team in Finance & Resources).
  • Work with relevant partners to broker mutually beneficial relationships.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience of data strategy and/or management
  • Confident and competent in using a range of software, particularly such as Salesforce and its ecosystem of integrations (e.g., APIs), as well as Microsoft Office products.
  • Working knowledge of data ethics and policies (i.e., GDPR)
  • Experience of scoping and developing new initiatives and forging new relationships with public, private and not for profit organisations and individuals.
  • Experience of successfully managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects with high level of autonomy.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, analyse strategic opportunities and apply judgement to present well substantiated recommendations in writing and in person.
  • Ability to collaborate to produce well structured, robust analysis and solutions.
  • Ability to see strategic opportunities and connections with other activities.
  • Budget holding experience including reporting internally and to key stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate and influence successfully.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight in a dynamic, quick-changing environment.
  • Ability to broker mutually beneficial relationships with a wide range of partners.
  • Good understanding of and experience of working in the social enterprise and/or community business sectors.
